Hotels can sometimes break a trip so we wanted to provide our feedback on our lodging choices. With the high cost of, well, everything in Iceland, a hotel that offered a solid breakfast was very high on our list of must-haves, location wasn’t as essential because we had a car, but it can never hurt to be close to everything, any a bad room can always put a damper on a trip. The one thing that didn’t really cross our minds during the planning stages was shower size, but it certainly came into play.
Fosshotel baron
We learned while we were in Iceland that Fosshotel is a large network of facilities on the island. Fosshotel Baron was two blocks from the main shopping/dining street of Laugavegur and offered free parking. The hotel also offered a hardy hot breakfast but we took a look at the room we noticed immediately that the shower was little more than a 3x3 ft. area with an unwieldy shower curtain. Overall we really liked the place and would recommend it.
Mid Hvoll Cottages
This location was our favorite and we spent two nights here so that we could see more of the countryside and try to catch the Northern Lights further from the city. The cottages are off the main road a little bit with an easy to see sign during the day but could be a little harder to spot at night. They are located on a family farm with private access to the black sand beach and two super friendly dogs that will play fetch with you until they get side-tracked by someone else. The cottages themselves can sleep up to 5 and have a full kitchen and nice bathroom.
Hotel Fron
This was a neat little hotel encompassing two buildings right on the main street of Laugavegur had very updated rooms with a good bathroom and a two burner stove. The breakfast at this hotel was a typical continental breakfast with cereal, toast, pastries, coffee, juice, and water.
